Cast Interviews for Your Mama Don’t Dance

The Lifetime dance show, Your Mama Don’t Dance premieres this Friday, February 29th at 9:00 p.m. eastern time. In the meantime, check out the official website where you can watch the cast videos of the contestants.

As I reported previously, the show partners wanna-be professional dancers with their parents to compete for the title of best parent-child dance duo.

I am willing to give the show a chance. Hopefully it won’t be as big of a disappointment as Dance War and Best Crew have been.

Dancing with the Stars on Oprah

oprah-winfrey.jpgThis morning on The Oprah Winfrey Show was the “Dancing with the Stars Extravaganza.” Oprah sat a table with host Tom Bergeron and judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli sat at their judges’ table. The whole set was transformed to look like the DWTS ballroom.

The prior dance champions performed on the show, starting with Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough, who performed a Cha Cha Cha. Helio said that season four champ Apolo Anton Ohno is the one that got him to do DWTS. Julianne and Helio denied that they were dating and said that they are good friends. Julianne said that other people want them to be together more than they want to be together.

Drew Lacey and Cheryl Burke performed their signature “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” freestyle dance. Drew said that he was intimidated to go on Oprah because it is the only show with a bigger viewing audience that DWTS.

Dancing with the Stars Season 6 cast revealed

The latest Dancing with the Stars cast was revealed last night during Dance War.  I was shocked that they did not wait until the last moment of the show for the announcement.   I wonder if anyone actually left the show on after the new cast was revealed?

Here are the new dancers:

Marlee Matlin (actress)
Adam Carolla (uh, “TV and radio personality,” I guess)
Steve Gutenberg (actor; should that be former?)
Kristi Yamaguchi (ice skating star)
Marissa Jaret Winokur (Broadway star, Hairspray original cast)
Penn Jillette  (of Penn and Teller)
Monica Seles (former tennis player)
Mario (R&B singer)
Pricilla Presley (former wife of Elvis)
Jason Taylor (NFL Player, Miami Dolphins)
Shannon Elizabeth (actress, American Pie)
Christian De La Fuente (Telenovela star)

Overall I am unimpressed with the list.  I think  that Kristi and Marissa may have an advantage based on experience.  Ice skating is sort of like dancing , right?   I hope Adam Corolla makes a hasty exit.  I am not a fan.

The professionals will be announced later this week.  As  I reported previously, Maksim Chmerkovskiy will not be among them, as he is taking this season off to pursue other opportunities.  Adam Corolla revealed on his radio show that he would be dancing with Julianne Hough.  Poor girl.  I hope he doesn’t corrupt her.

Dancing with the Stars announcement

Tonight during Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, ABC will be announcing the celebrities for the new season of Dancing with the Stars.  That just shows how awful the rating are for Dance War that they have to have a gimmick for the finale just to get people to watch.

Full announcement will be available here as well (and is not as painful as watching Dance War).

So You Think You Can Dance Premieres May 22nd

According to BuddyTV, Fox has announced that season four of So You Think You Can Dance will begin on May 22nd!  Finally we can return to watching real dancing on television.

The series will run Wednesdays and Thursdays for two hours (I can just picture all of the stalling tactics now).  Hopefully this season’s crop of talent will be just as good as last year’s cast.

Dancing with the Stars rumors

According to Star magazine, here are some celebrities that we might be seeing on Dancing with the Stars this season.  Keep in mind that prior to every season there all kinds of rumors and many of them turn out to be false.

That being said, what would think about seeing any of these people on the show this year?

  •  Sean Hayes, from Will and Grace
  •  Pricilla Presley
  • Marlee Matlin
  • Marissa Jaret Winokur, from Hairspray

Cheryl Burke splits with Matthew Lawrence

cheryl-burke-matthew-lawrence.jpgDancing with the Stars professional Cheryl Burke has broken up with her boyfriend a year, Matthew Lawrence.  The couple met when Matthew’s brother Joey appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2006, but only began dating last year.

No reason was given for the split, although it could be her busy schedule to blame.  Although he has joined her on tour in the past, it is no doubt difficult to maintain a relationship when one person does so much traveling and is so busy with the demanding schedule of DWTS.

America’s Best Dance Crew Auditions

I was able to catch part of a re-airing of the audition episode of Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew.  Some of the talent was fairly good and some of it was not so good.

Some of the groups were a little to “hip hop dance class” in their unoriginality.  I thought some others were too gimmicky, like the guys on rollerskates and the guys with the masks.  I guess it worked, though, because they got through.

I was most annoyed by A.C. Slater/Mario Lopez and his poor attempts to sound “hip” with his manner of speaking.  I can’t even explain it.  It was just awkward.

The judges were Shane Sparks (who like when he is on So You Think You Can Dance said very little that was helpful), “club favorite” Lil’ Mama (who was really annoying) and former N’Sync star J.C. Chasez (really, that was the best you could do?)

If you want to check out the auditions, you can see clips online at MTV.

America’s Best Dance Crew debuts Thursday

randy-jackson.jpgMTV’s foray into the reality dancing world comes this Thursday, February February 7th, with the debut of Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew. The show initially airs at 10:00 p.m. eastern, but, knowing MTV, it will likely be re-run countless times. They have already aired a casting special, which if you missed it re-airs today and tomorrow.

I just saw a commercial for the show and it looked like the level of talent is pretty good. It involves groups of dancers, “crews,” competing against one another. The preview showed a varied amount of dance styles, including hip-hop and break dancing.

So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Shane Sparks will be one of the judges.

New Reality Dancing: Your Mama Don’t Dance

ian-ziering.jpgLifetime television has announced a new reality dancing show called Your Mama Don’t Dance, which will debut on February 29th. The show will pair young professional dancers with their parents to compete for cash and prizes.

Dancing with the Stars alum Ian Ziering will serve as the host of the show and it will feature three, as of yet unnamed, celebrity judges.

From Lifetime:

Your Mama Don’t Dance distinguishes itself from other dance competition shows because its point of view is truly unique. The relationships between the dancers and their parents will evolve during the eight weeks and it will be both heartwarming and heartbreaking — with a lot of twists and unexpected turns along the way.

Apparently the contestants were not initially told the nature of the competition and thought that they were signing up for a traditional dance-off.  I bet they were surprised!
